How would adopting of EVs reduce the cost of commercial transportation?

I heard someone that one major benefits of EVs is that when it is deployed to public transportation, it would drastically reduce the costs of transportation.

Do you agree or not? How would that be possible?

I think that with EVs, they would be no need to continually buy fuel for your locomotive. This would reduce costs of transportation generally.
