Staff awards are always used to motivate and encourage staff. But in the other way round, it can turn around and have the negative effect on business. How can staff award be a drawback to a business organization?

Well said, it has to be given out in a fair way. I have seen cases where these awards leads to staff hating one another cause they feel those who got the award did not deserve it.

Well that's right even those that do not even deserved it will start clamouring for it. Sometimes we can't even help it.
