Irvine Company Unveils Plans for All-Electric "Climate-Positive" Village
The Irvine Company announced ambitious plans on December 26th for its next major development:a 5,000-unit "climate-positive" village in the former Irvine Ranch agricultural preserve. The project, named Solis, promises to generate more energy than it consumes via vast solar canopies and kinetic sidewalks, process all its own water and waste on-site, and permit only electric vehicles. Environmental groups are cautiously optimistic but demand guarantees on habitat connectivity and affordable housing units. The proposal will go before the Irvine City Council in February.
