Is a true catastrophe necessary for society to come together again?

Even though I'm not sure when we were like that, I believe that something so massive is required to compel us to do it in order for people to unite once more. But I believe that everyone in today's world is so arrogant that they would stand by their incorrect beliefs to the death and be unable to come together with anyone else.

I believe people would only unit when they finally decide to, cause even when something bad happens, this is even the best time you would see the true nature of humans.
