Is having a girlfriend a financial drain to a male?

I would start this thread with a disclaimer. This is not supposed to be a sexist thread or misogynistic post.

Most people in my country equate being in a relationship with a lady as just taking up financial liability. You would hear talks like, "I don't want a relationship because I don't have money to spend". And other statements from guys that tend to point ladies as financial liabilities.

I am bringing it to the Discussion Bucks house, is dating a lady as a guy a financial liability? We know one has to buy flashy things to keep ladies happy but do you think dating a lady can drag your financial life down?
This is because most men try to attract women/ girls through gifts and presents. In India dating is not prevalent.

I think it is a case to case experience. I have a boyfriend that I declared our relationship quits. It's simply because it's my money I always spent when we dined outside. He did not even decide to have
50 /50 sharing. He kept on telling me that I have a better salary than he and sometimes he told me his salary on delay. I was fed up. I told him to part ways because I didn't like a beggar boyfriend.

It depends on the financial status of the girlfriend. If the girlfriend is financially independent, she may not be a financial drain. However most good looking women are not financially independent, so their boyfriend is expected to spend money on them.
