Is it possible to get top jobs in your country strictly on merit?

It's still possible but rare, i have seen a few rare cases where they got the job simply on merits, but it's a lot more common for people to buy their way in which is so sad.

As for civil service jobs, there is no way that is given on merit here in my country. It is all about who you know.
Even in my country it's depends on who you know there is nothing like merit,if that was possible I would have secured a well paying job ,so after graduation I search for job to no avail so I have to continue with my blogging work, focus is. the key but now am doing well with my blogging work better than those 8-5 hours jobs

It is a terrible situation that one would struggle to go to school and not able to get any job to live with.

Indeed, in many countries, the path to top jobs is often influenced by connections or financial resources, and merit isn't always the determining factor. I'd say it depends a lot on the field. For example, I tried to enter the personal training sphere, where it's quite difficult to rise without a solid education and support from recognized organizations. I enrolled in courses from The Fitness Group, which is among the most respected in the field. It was a great decision for me because I not only gained the necessary knowledge but also career support. After graduation, I had the opportunity to apply for various jobs without needing to rely on external connections.

What you mention happens in many places, unfortunately. In theory, the best jobs should be obtained through merit, effort, and preparation, but in practice, connections, favoritism, or outright corruption often influence the situation. In my country, there are also cases where good positions are obtained through "contacts," which discourages those who truly strive to excel.
However, there are also companies and sectors where talent and meritocracy are valued. In those places, if you're good at what you do, they recognize you and help you grow without the need for leverage. I think the important thing is not to lose faith or focus: to continue preparing yourself and seeking out spaces where your value is what opens doors for you, not who you know. In the end, the positions obtained through merit are the ones that truly last over time.
