A friend of mine applied for a three days leave from his workplace to go attend to his sick mom. The business owner refused to grant him the leave and threatened him with a sack of he dares stay absent from work.

The guy is a vital part of the business running and him not being around might affect the smooth running of the business.

Is it right for the organisation to deny him the leave?

There are so many reasons that the company may refuse the staff a leave for that matter. For instance whe the business do have inadequate staff to afford a leave for the existing staffs for sure
There is no business that is superior to human life. It is selfishness for a business to prevent the staff to go take care of his sick mom. I would rather resign from such a workplace.

It is wrong, but then again there are some factors to consider. In a situation where this staff in particular has been taking leaves for a while, they might not be willing to grant this one.

According to the humanitarian principles in my country, the human resources are obligated to guarantee permission to the workers to go and nurse their parents on leave something. That is because most people wouldn't concentrate at work when their closely family members are sickling.

It is absolutely wrong to deny him sick leave. The business management suppose consider the bond between a child and mother and how their decision will morally affect the employee.

I believe it is inappropriate to deny an employee leave to care for a sick parent. However, there are times when the company must reject the request because of staffing shortages.
There is no job that is more than the welfare of a family member. And there is no reason whatsoever to deny a staff such leverage to check on sick parents.
