According to the report, Japan said its warplanes used flares to warn a Russian reconnaissance aircraft to leave northern Japanese airspace.

The report said that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida vowed to "resolutely defend Japan's territory" as Tokyo protested with Moscow after a Russian patrol plane entered its airspace.

The report added that the military responded by scrambling fighter jets and issuing radio and flare warnings, calling it the first confirmed incursion since 2019.

Do note Japan and Russia are technically in a state of war since they still have not signed a formal peace treaty and things are unlikely to change in light of recent events
