In order to express regret for falsely accusing a businessman of exporting potentially sensitive industrial equipment, Japanese officials bowed and placed flowers at his grave. In March 2020, Shizuo Aishima and three other executives were taken into custody for carrying out fraudulent exports. Five months prior to the indictments being dismissed, in February 2021, he passed away from stomach cancer. On Monday, his family accepted the apologies at his burial in Yokohama. His wife, however, stated that she was unable to pardon the people responsible for the accusation.
