Reports online has it that the National Assembly has amended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, prescribing life imprisonment for drug offenders and traffickers.

This comes following the adoption of the harmonised report by the Senate and House of Representatives on the NDLEA Act amendment.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Senate Conference Committee, Senator Tahir Monguno, said the amendment is to deter illegal drug activities by imposing stricter penalties.

That's a very good decision taken by the senate. Drug traffickers should get capital punishment that will reduce drug abusers too.
 
The government have to do more by creating employment. Idle mind is devil's workshop. When the youths are engaged, they are more likely to be useful to the society. Severe punishment may not be the solution to the problem. Government and nongovernmental organizations should create awareness about the danger of drugs. Presently, about 60% of Nigeria youths are using drugs.
