Managing Finance as a Single Parent

Other than running the family on a single person earning, single parents have to take care of the children and household chores and errands on their own. There is no one to share other responsibilities and even the emotional stress. Time management becomes tougher for then in the work life balance. Also, they need to pay for babysitting from time to time. There is a lot on their plate.

I will not make a general statement that single parents do miserable. Yes, there are numerous challenges. But then people have done well with a proper planning and execution. My mom was a single parent as my dad died young when my brother and I were still very young, both being below five years of age. It was not easy but I don't remember any moment when we faced a financial crisis or something important had to be stopped due to lack of fund. Mom, with her education and a good job could do everything single handedly. We were not deprived of anything on financial crisis. We got a decent life and the best education. She did all this with her planning and meticulous execution. Also, with her time management skills. We learnt th e value of money and judicious spending from her.

This is good and it only happened because she had a good job and was educated, I was making a point generally that its hard for single mother or even for a single father who does not plan to get married again because not everyone is well educated and even if they are, not everyone will get a good job.

Single parents do have a life tougher because they do lack an emotional and family support. That does impact many other things.
Even with a double income regular family, things can be miserable if both partners are into petty jobs that don't pay much. The financial stress would stay there too and will take a toll on many other things. So, the main point is not single earnings or double earnings, but how much is the earning. Is it enough to meet the financial obligations of the family? Many family live in poor condition despite both parents working. Having a partner is a bonus. Other than adding to the finance, the main benefits are emotional and mental support, someone to share your life with.

It's difficult to make both ends meet when you have a big family and the earnings are too low to sustain, this is why the government introduced schemes to help them and are also educating them to not to have many kids as most of these low-tier sections believe, if they have more kids, they will have more people to work and earn.
