Manchester United FC has sacked Ruben Amorim as manager. The announcement was made early hours on Monday, 5th January, 2026 after the Red Devils could only manage a draw against Leeds United in their Premier league match over the weekend.
I'm of two minds here as a fan of Liverpool F.C. (
a/k/a United's rival!).
On the one hand, I had to chuckle at his sacking; he now joins Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Erik ten Haag, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and David Moyes as managers who came in after Sir Alex's departure and couldn't fill the man's shoes. That said, I actually want to see them do well because, like the Biblical quote goes, "
iron sharpens iron." There is such a rivalry between our two clubs, Liverpool and United, that its' only right to want them to do well so that it sharpens the other side's senses and makes them better.
Yes, I was pissed all those years United were doing well, having knocked us off of that f'ng perch (
to quote Fergie's words) and it made us want to do better ourselves, if for no other reason than to catch them. Now we're back on the English perch and United's down for a bit....
