The Nasdaq and NYSE are certainly two stock exchanges well-known to stock enthusiasts, both investors and traders. Although both are located in the same city, New York, the NYSE seems to be more popular because it's located on Wall St.

One difference between the NYSE and Nasdaq that I know is that companies seeking an IPO or listing their shares on the NYSE must have a minimum annual earnings before tax of $10 million. On the Nasdaq, profit is not a critical metric, but rather focuses on company growth.

Of course, there are many other differences I'm not yet familiar with, such as registration fees, types of listed companies, stock trading methods, and the availability of trading floors.
