According to the report, the North Korean army, long known as the iron fist that has sustained Kim Jong-un's totalitarian regime, made a surprise appearance in Kursk this year. With 1.3 million regular soldiers, the Korean People's Army has served as both the backbone of Pyongyang's internal control and the principal instrument of South Korean intimidation. These days, Mr. Kim's forces flex their muscles away from home in Ukrainian-controlled territory, where more than 11,000 North Korean troops have been deployed to boost Russia's war effort.

The report said that the troops include North Korea's Storm Corps, an elite special forces unit ostensibly trained for high-risk operations such as urban warfare and mountain infiltration. Arguably, these special units are better trained than the rank and file grunts in the standard North Korean military. This could also be because the soldiers in the Storm Corps came from notable, politically reliable families. ---But the flat, drone-filled battlefields of eastern Ukraine proved to be a poor match for the skills of North Korean soldiers. According to South Korean intelligence, these troops received minimal training in modern combat tactics and were unprepared for drone attacks, trench warfare or the region's vast, open terrain. This is why North Korean soldiers in Kursk are overwhelmed by drones, often allowing them to get too close and explode. Other North Korean units fire at all drones, friend or foe.

The report added that Adding to the chaos, their deployment was so hastily organized that many soldiers had little time to learn even basic Russian commands such as fire or retreat. The language barriers and lack of preparation of North Korean soldiers, including the Storm Corps, led to predictable battlefield confusion. So Kim Jong-Un's gamble has cost Pyongyang dearly. ---The cost to Pyongyang is evidenced by the number of North Korean soldiers eliminated or wounded so far.

In addition to the report, South Korea's General Staff recently announced that more than a thousand North Korean soldiers have been eliminated or wounded since they entered the war in Ukraine. This figure included more than 100 casualties reported in the first few weeks after North Korean troops were deployed in Kursk. These appalling figures were no surprise given the circumstances of their hasty deployment to the front lines.

Further, in a recent statement, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the total casualties of North Korean troops in Kursk had reached almost 3,000. This number, of course, includes wounded soldiers. ---What about the North Korean soldiers who fought for Russia in Kursk and surrendered or chose to end their lives?

It is an eerie scene seeing this . 3,000 North Korean soldiers perished in the war in Kursk . They lack the combat tactics and the language barrier is one cause of their depressions. The Russian soldiers also mal-treated the North Korean soldiers. Such a pity! Why are their country leaders do not have pity with their soldiers sending them lacking combat tactics?
