Last year, Japan saw the sharpest yearly population fall since government surveys started in 1968, with over a million more deaths than births.

As Japan's population ages, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has referred to the demographic situation as a "quiet emergency" and promised family-friendly measures including free childcare and more flexible work schedules.

However, there hasn't been much progress in changing the consistently low birth rates among Japanese women. In 2024, there were 908,574 decreased Japanese citizens, according to new data issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on Wednesday.

Should there be Changes when women need to conceive?when couples are financially stable these Changes shouldn't matter

I am deeply moved to hear about the demographic situation in Japan. The decline in the population by more than 900,000 people per year is a sign of a serious challenge. I also believe that this is not just a matter of statistics, but a call for urgent and meaningful action.

Measures such as relaxing work schedules and providing free childcare are a good start. But without social and cultural change, it is difficult to see immediate results. Women need a safe and supportive environment to freely choose to start a family.

I completely agree with you here, once the standard of living is very okay, most of them would naturally opt to have more children.

The standard of living in Japan is far better than that of my country and people are still giving births to children here. It seems the young population of Japan nowt don't like children.

You have a point there but while their standard of living might be better, even some considered as poor might be better than most persons in Nigeria, to them over there they can't cope with having more children.

The married people may have opted to raise only one child. It is not easy to manage many children when the commodities are increasing by the day.
Yes, I believe it is better so instead of having more poor kids they avoid giving birth

That will be a responsible move to be in a better place first emotionally and financially before planning children.
