Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday, edging Egypt 4-2 on penalties after a tense third-place playoff finished scoreless at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca
With neither side able to break the deadlock in regulation time, the contest went straight to a shootout where goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali once again took centre stage. The Chippa United shot-stopper saved penalties from Mohamed Salah and Oumar Marmoush, sealing Nigeria’s ninth third-place finish at the tournament and preserving their flawless record in AFCON bronze medal matches.
