India’s Dipa Karmakar scripted history by winning the gold medal in the women’s vault apparatus at the Asian Gymnastics Championships 2024 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Sunday. This is the first time that an Indian gymnast managed to win a gold medal in any event at the Asian Championships.

Previously, Indian gymnasts managed four medals, all bronze, at the continental championships. Dipa Karmakar herself accounted for one of these with a third-place finish in women’s vault in 2015.

The news said that earlier on Friday, Dipa Karmakar finished 16th in the all-round category in Tashkent with a score of 46.166 and failed to secure a Paris Olympics 2024 quota for India in gymnastics. The Philippines’ Emma Malabuyo, who finished third with 50.398, obtained the only Olympic quota offer from the Tashkent meet. She is also the first Indian female gymnast to compete at the Olympics and finished a credible fourth in women’s vault at Rio 2016 - the best display by any gymnast at the Summer Games to date.

All countries attributed their athletes with cash and other items as tokens or their actions performed during Olympics. They bring fame and honor to their country.

Money is to drive them to give it their best aside from pride and honor to the country. Athletes are given the support they need. If they are well compensated, I think that they are not going to perform well.
Yes, that's right. Let's hope our Philippines athletes will bring home the bacon like EJ our Pole Vault 2nd in the works, Yulo our gymnast , Marcial, Paalam and Nesty our boxers and more. I'm so excited now.

I believe they have a chance after upsetting Latvia. The Gilas guys have got the confidence they needed after winning against the number 6 team in the world. Still, hoping for the best for them.
Let us hoe they will qualify for the Olympics. it will be a great honor to them and the Philippines especially if they bring home gold.
