I see some companies placing new staff on probation after they have been employed in the organization.

Why do most corporate organizations always place staff on probation after employment? Does it hold any advantage for the company to place staff on probation?
 
It's more of a way to determine if the staff is the right one. If during the probation period, they are not impressed with the performance of the staffs, their acceptance can be terminated.
