According to the report, authorities seized about PHP3 million worth of suspected shabu and arrested a 58-year-old man during a joint operation by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency–Ilocos Region in Bani town on Friday.

The report also stated that Capt. Aileen Catugas, PPO information officer, said the operation was carried out by virtue of a search warrant issued by the Alaminos City Regional Trial Court. The suspect, a charcoal maker, was apprehended at his residence, where police found around 450 grams of suspected shabu.

In addition to the report, confiscated during the operation were one transparent ziplock bag containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu, along with seven heat-sealed plastic sachets of the same substance, weighing a total of 450 grams,” Catugas said.

The suspect is detained at the Bani Police Station pending drug testing and documentation. The seized drugs were turned over to the Pangasinan Forensic Unit 1 in Lingayen for laboratory examination.

Charges of violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, will be filed against him, she added.

From my perspective, this police operation reinforces the importance of continuing to combat drug trafficking in communities. The seizure of 450 grams of shabu and the arrest of a suspect in Bani, with an estimated street value of PHP3 million, demonstrates that the authorities are working diligently to reduce the presence of drugs in the region. However, it also makes me question how deep-rooted the problem is and what impact it has on the local community. The fight against drugs requires not only operations like this, but also social programs that help prevent people from turning to crime out of necessity or desperation. It is crucial that the authorities continue these actions, but at the same time, they must strengthen prevention and rehabilitation initiatives. Only in this way can we achieve real and lasting change in the fight against drug trafficking in the Philippines.
