According to the report, a lawyer was shot dead by an unidentified assailant on Wednesday, September 17, outside his residence in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

Authorities identified the victim as Joshua Lavega Abrina, former legal officer of the Department of Education (DepEd) office in Palawan and was connected in the Administrative Division of the Philippine Ports Authority - Puerto Princesa.

The report said that Abrina had just arrived from a prayer meeting at their church along Abanico Street with his family. While unloading their belongings, an assailant gunned him down.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. An investigation is underway and the Puerto Princesa City police has formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) focusing on the case.

Abrina's death is the eighth among the killings of legal professionals under the Marcos administration, based on a list from lawyers group National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers. The Supreme Court, through Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, condemned the lawyer's killing and called it "senseless act of violence".

It's truly alarming to read about the murder of lawyer Joshua Lavega Abrina in Puerto Princesa City. What's most troubling is not only the incident itself, but the context: according to reports, eight lawyers have been murdered during the current administration. This raises serious questions about the safety of legal professionals in the Philippines and the system's ability to protect those who play a fundamental role in upholding justice and the rule of law.

He was a young lawyer, brilliant and always won a case . The suspect might be hired to kill. The mastermind is obvious, the parents or relatives of the convicted criminals who landed in jail. Marcos administration is the worst admin. Crimes soar and the targets are lawyers, businessmen and more. It never happened in the Duterte Administration.
