The World Health Organization (WHO) and Gaza's Ministry of Health both said that they had tested and discovered samples of virus in sewage water. The WHO announced on Friday that sewage samples taken on June 23 from Khan Younis and Deir al Balah had shown evidence of poliovirus type 2 (VDPV2) at six different locations. The findings, according to WHO, are related to the "disastrous sanitation situation" brought about by Israel's brutal military assault in Gaza after the October 7 strikes by Hamas.
