Prison Officer Impregnated by Inmate, Fined, Evades Jail

A Kenyan female prison officer made headlines after it emerged that she had a sexual relationship with a prisoner who was granted special permission to sleep outside the prison. The relationship was kept secret for a while until the pregnancy came to light and caused a stir.

Officer was arraigned in court. The court acknowledged that the offence was serious and threatened the integrity of the justice system but said that a prison sentence would harm the unborn child. Instead of imprisonment, the officer was fined, ordered to attend psychological counselling and banned from any work involving prisoners.

This is a great lesson in ethics at work.
