According to the report, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syria’s interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa held their first phone call since Bashar al-Assad’s removal by rebels last year.

The report said that The Kremlin stated that Putin extended support for Syria's unity and sovereignty while wishing Sharaa success in his leadership. Sharaa highlighted the "strong strategic ties" with Russia and stressed Syria’s openness to all parties as it transitions towards a new government, set to take over on 1 March.

Meanwhile, Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani called for clear policies from Russia and Iran to rebuild trust with the Syrian people. The United States reiterated its stance that its support for camps holding Islamic State-linked prisoners in northeast Syria "cannot last forever".

Russia better at least pay a lot and hand over the old leader of Syria if they expect Syria to even be neutral with them.
