Rats and mice damaging cables

I find that rats and mice are damaging the power and other cables, like mouse cable, keyboard cable. Has anyone faced this problem and what is the best way to fix this problem, and prevent further damage to the cables in future?

Yes I have experienced this before, they can be pretty annoying, they tend to eat anything or just chew and destroy it.

Did you get replacement cables for the cables which were destroyed. A large number of cables are damaged and finding replacements will be expensive.
