There are businesses that we start knowing that we would do long term. We know such businesses are life businesses. There are also businesses that people just do for survival. Not really for long term.

Do you think it is right for people to invest their energy to do a business they are sure they won't do into the next ten years?

Ten years is a long time and a lot will change in that time. Even if you plan to have one business as your life business in long term, you have no guarantee to ensure that it would be sustainable for such long time with so many rapid changes happening around. So many businesses that were profitable and minting money a decade back are not existing any more.
Yes, if the business is serving some purpose in current times be it a monetary benefit or having a productive engagement, there is no harm in doing it even when you don't plan to do it ten years down the lane.
