In my country, especially among lower-middle-class people, we can find small grocery stores that utilize their homes. These small grocery stores are generally opened using the front of the house and set up like kiosks. These small grocery stores are run by retirees, housewives whose husbands work, or even by the unemployed. They sell daily necessities, such as cigarettes, coffee, soap, rice, etc. Another advantage of opening a small shop in one's own home is that they don't have to pay rent, are easy to manage, and have easy access to inventory or can be purchased from larger retailers or wholesalers.
