Smartphone battery not getting charged

Though the smartphone is starting when connected to a power source, the battery is not getting charged. Other than replacing the battery is there any way to fix the problem cheaply?

You need to first confirm if it's the battery or the charging port. If it's the charging port, you don't need to change the battery just the port.
