A person that I know just lost his dad, and the company the dad worked for has paid $10k gratuity. They are 3 siblings. Should he build a house for the family since they don't own their home. That amount can build a house in my country. Or should he use it to start a family business?

Since the recipients of the gratuity money live in rental, it is better for the 3 siblings to buy a small house and lot they can call their own rather than losing the money paying for a house rent, They need to be smart.

Why not do both? Build or buy a small house for now then focus on investing and starting a business, and with time you can build the house you want.

Maybe buy a small house within their budget and start a small business. Doing both is the best option. Hehe. Having a business can really help them, especially in this current economy.
I would subscribe to this point of view too if the amount of money can get them a small house. If it is to choose one, a house is the best bet.
