Stock is finished but someone pays for it before you update the website. How do you handle that?

An e-commerce store has just finished selling the last of a particular product. As the owner logs in to the site to update that the product is out of stock, he sees a fully paid order for that product.

How does the owner of the e commerce site handle such a situation?

The best you can do is contact the person and explain to them, so you either refund the money back to them, or they can wait till you restock.

If it is possible, order from another reputable seller for the person. You might even have to forgo your profits with this arrangement.

I have encountered this situation. I placed an order but a day later, the online seller told me that the product I ordered was out of stock. They refund the money. That's it.
