Superfoods are promoted as such when they contain high concentrations of desirable nutrients, are associated with the prevention of disease, or are thought to provide several concurrent health benefits above and beyond their nutritional value. However, there is no scientifically-based or regulated definition of a superfood. Berries, salmon, leafy greens, almonds, olive oil, whole grains, yogurt, cruciferous vegetables, legumes, and many others are well-known superfoods.
