Syria will hold its first parliamentary elections since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad on Sunday, despite concerns about inclusivity and repeated delays. There will be no direct vote for the People's Assembly, which will be in charge of legislation during the transition phase. Instead, "electoral colleges" will choose representatives for two-thirds of the 210 positions. Ahmed al-Sharaa, the interim president, will appoint the rest. Following a 13-year civil war, Sharaa's forces deposed long-time President Assad ten months ago. Authorities said the elections have been postponed for security concerns in two Kurdish-controlled areas and a third after fatal fighting between government forces and Druze militias.
