According to the report, Syria’s new leadership has expressed a desire to rebuild ties with Russia, the close ally of deposed leader Bashar al-Assad. In an interview with Al Arabiya TV, Syria’s new leader Ahmed al-Sharaa said his country shared "deep strategic interests" with Russia.

The report said that a Syrian security source told Al-Jazeera that military forces have set up checkpoints surrounding the Russian military base in Tartous province. This came after reports that some former officers under the Assad regime had fled to the Russian base.

Meanwhile, Russia's spy service (SVR) claims the US and British intelligence services are preparing "terrorist acts" against Russian military bases in Syria, RIA news reported.

Those loyalists of the Assads should surrender and make a final reform with the new Syrian leader. They cannot hide forever under the wings of the Russians. With that, Jolani will not last long. Remember, the 10 million dollar bounty on his head has not been lifted yet. If he wants Russia's protection, look at what happened to Bashar.

I think that the new leader is diplomat and don't want to start unnecessary distractions that will cause another uprising. He want to make sure that he have secured Syria before making drastic changes in government. Secondly, Russia is a world power and to ignore them is enough to bring problem.
