Taal Volcano in Batangas emits 900-meter plume

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Taal Volcano in Batangas experienced a phreatic eruption on Friday night at approximately 11:51 PM, sending a plume of ash and steam up to 900 meters into the air. Currently, Alert Level 1 is in effect for the volcano. On January 8, it released 5,868 tonnes of sulfur dioxide. Access to the volcano, especially the main crater, is strictly prohibited, and flying any aircraft near Taal is also forbidden.
