Imjingang Station, the last stop on Seoul's metropolitan subway line that is closest to North Korea, had an unusually large number of people on a hot morning earlier this week.

A man, Ahn Hak-sop, a 95-year-old former North Korean prisoner of war, was going home over the border between the Korean peninsula when dozens of activists and police officers centered their attention on him.

Mr. Ahn mentioned it as his "final journey" because, despite living in South Korea for almost all of his life, generally against his will, he wanted to return to the North to be buried there.
