Body of 3-year old recovered following flooding in Kaduna

The corpse of a 3-year old named Haneefa has been recovered in Zaria of Kaduna state.

Haneefa went missing after a heavy downpour resulted in flood sweeping away her siblings in Tudun Jukun, Zaria.

A statement issued by Abdulmumin Adamu DS Zaria division of Nigerian Red Cross Society said, “On 14th September, 2025, at approximately 11:00am, the remains of Haneefa was discovered at Gangaren Kasan Killaco, Gyallesu, Zaria.

“This recovery concludes the search and confirms that all the flood victims have now been accounted.”

This is a heartbreaking update, and it really shows the devastating human cost of the floods that have been affecting different parts of Kaduna state. Losing a child in such circumstances is something no family should ever have to endure, and my thoughts go out to the relatives of little Haneefa as well as to the entire community in Tudun Jukun. The fact that she went missing after the downpour while her siblings were also swept away emphasizes how quickly these floods can turn from heavy rain into a life-threatening disaster. Even with warnings, sometimes the sheer force of nature leaves people with little or no time to react. The work of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in locating and recovering her remains deserves recognition, because it gives the family some closure, even though the pain will remain. What is especially tragic is that such events are becoming more frequent as weather patterns intensify, and it underscores the urgent need for stronger flood control measures, safer housing along waterways, and early evacuation systems. While the recovery confirms all victims have now been accounted for, the grief and lessons from this tragedy should not be forgotten, as they highlight the necessity of preparedness and community resilience.

Pitiful baby, she never had experienced growing up. Her parents might be in excruciating pain for losing their previous child. A flood spares no one and that child wasn't exempted. What a cruel flood. Why isn't the baby in a safe place with her parents? Age 3 is crucial to be unattended during the most difficult and dangerous time. The parents could also be blame for the fate of their child.

It is well, she still had so much to live for, but maybe finding the body would bring some closure. Wishing the family the strength to move forward though.
