The Delta State Police Command has commenced investigation into the gruesome m8rder of Pastor Oputeh Monday, in Umuebu community, Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.

Monday, aged 59, was k!lled and beheaded by unknown assailants on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

The case was reported by the deceased’s son, Oputeh Joshua, aged 26, who told police that his father had left home early for his farm along Amai/Umuebu farm road and instructed them to meet him later with a motorcycle.

On their way, they heard gunshots and rushed into the bush where they discovered the lifeless body of their father lying on the ground with his head chopped off.

“Detectives from Obiaruku Division visited the scene of the crime and evacuated the corpse to Medisar Mortuary, Obiaruku, for preservation and autopsy,” sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama.

What shocking news about the murder of Pastor Oputeh Monday. The violence in rural communities like Umuebu shows the extent to which insecurity remains a rampant problem in Delta State. That a 59-year-old man, dedicated to his work in the fields and to his community, should be attacked in such a brutal manner is not only a tragedy for his family but also an alarming sign for all the inhabitants of the region. The manner in which he was executed—shot and beheaded—suggests a message of terror, likely linked to local conflicts, revenge, or even territorial disputes. What's most worrying is that cases like this are rarely resolved quickly, and the perpetrators often go unpunished. I hope the police will carry this investigation to a conclusion and that the family receives justice. People deserve to live without fear in their own villages.
