The jewelry room called " Ratna Bhandar" in Oriya of Puri Jagannath temple was opened today under tight security after 46 years. The keys of the room is said to have been lost and so the lock of the door( the door of the room is hundreds of year old and very heavy)had to be broken. Lot of teak boxes are being brought to store the jewelry. These jewelry are hundreds of years old and some are used to decorate the idols during festivals like " Rath Yatra " and "Suna Bhesa".

Maybe the owners of that jewelry store are the children of the real owners. They might be too old to manage it. Just imagine it was closed for 46 years and it is expected that the owners are already very old or have passed away.

Earlier it belonged to the King of Puri ( Gajapati Raja) and now to the temple trust. Who donated so much jewelry to the Lord of temple nobody knows.
