Kampot pepper, from Cambodia, is one of the most expensive peppers in the world. Sadly, it cannot survive extreme heat, which has caused many bushes to die due to drought. Extreme heat is experienced not only in Cambodia but also in other parts of South and Southeast Asia. The country is experiencing a lack of rain, and there is not enough water to supply the Kampot pepper. Despite surviving many decades of upheaval, this valuable crop is now at risk. A kilogram of Kampot pepper costs nearly PHP 12,000.
