Olatunji “Tunji” Disu has been appointed Nigeria’s 23rd Inspector‑General of Police (IGP), taking over from Kayode Egbetokun following a directive from President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, February 23, 2026
A veteran police officer with over 30 years of service, Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, and has steadily risen through the ranks. Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island, Lagos State, he is a graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), where he earned a degree in English Education. He also holds master’s degrees in Public Administration and Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology.
