Philippines Department of Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla delivers a speech during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Philippines Department of Energy (DOE) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to promote US-Philippines Civil Nuclear Cooperation at a hotel in Taguig, Metro Manila, on May 21, 2024. The reports said that the Philippines and the United States agreed to train Filipinos how to build and operate nuclear power plants, as the Southeast Asian country seeks to boost its electricity supply. They met yesterday, Tuesday, May 21.

Further, the announcement comes after Manila and Washington struck a nuclear cooperation agreement in November that cleared a path for US investment to jumpstart atomic power in the energy-hungry Philippines.
