According to the report, the United States successfully tested a B61-12 tactical thermonuclear bomb without a warhead in August, according to a statement from the US Department of Energy's Sandia National Laboratories.

The report also stated that the tests were conducted at a test site in Nevada from Aug. 19 to 21, the statement said. During the tests, American fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets delivered and dropped the weapons with inert warheads.

In addition to the report, the tests were conducted in coordination with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The National Nuclear Security Agency completed a program to extend the service life of those aerial bombs by 20 years in late 2024, according to a statement.

From my perspective, nuclear weapons testing, even if it's just simulated testing with inert weapons, raises serious concerns about its implications for global stability. Testing a weapon like the B61-12, even without a warhead, demonstrates that the United States continues to invest in maintaining its nuclear arsenal and deployment capabilities. This can increase international tensions, especially in a context where relations between major powers are already strained. Furthermore, extending the service life of these weapons by 20 years means that the risk of accidental or intentional use remains a reality, and that shouldn't be taken lightly. I believe these developments highlight the need to strengthen international efforts to reduce nuclear weapons and promote peace, rather than continuing to modernize arsenals that only fuel a dangerous arms race.
