According to the report, Severe Tropical Cyclone (Fung-wong) has intensified into a typhoon and is now inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the weather bureau said Friday.

The report also stated that in its 11 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the center of Typhoon Uwan was located at 1,045 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.

It is moving west-northwestward at 20 kph with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

The report also said that PAGASA said strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 780 km from the center. Uwan is forecast to move west-northwestward until Monday before turning generally north-northwestward by Tuesday.

In addition to the report, there is a high risk of life-threatening and damaging storm surge with peak heights exceeding 3.0 m within the next 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal communities in some areas in the Philippines, PAGASA said.

From my perspective, the arrival of Typhoon Uwan poses a significant threat to communities in the Philippines, especially those in vulnerable coastal areas. The typhoon's intensity and size, with sustained winds of 120 kph and gusts up to 150 kph, indicate that it could cause considerable damage if proper precautions are not taken. The forecast of a storm surge that could exceed 3 meters in some areas is alarming and requires a rapid and coordinated response from authorities and the public. It is crucial that at-risk communities follow official instructions and prepare for possible evacuations. This situation highlights the importance of having effective early warning systems and emergency plans, as these natural phenomena, while unpredictable, always serve as a stark reminder of our vulnerability to climate change and extreme events.

Many died in that storm; almost 300 people were killed, thousands were injured, and thousands lost their homes and properties. It was a devastating storm. It is so sad, by December, there will be 5 storms to visit my country.
