I think Vitalik’s argument on scalability in Ethereum marks a kind of pivot in the development of the network. What fascinates me most is his claim that there are no inherent barriers anymore to a decentralized system reaching an amazingly scaled level, with the sole necessary condition being that they have to conform to physical and social realities. In my opinion, his definition of “the heartbeat of the world” for a future Ethereum concept: “a reliable foundation upon which "second layers" can execute higher value applications at higher speeds” is a very evocative inspirational goal. The bottom line, to my mind, is that innovations like data availability sampling or zero-knowledge proofs make possible a thousandfold scaling without sacrificing decentralization. Today, I think that a new chapter for Ethereum is now underway, whose pillars are a kind of censorship resistance and innovation.
