What are deep "follow up" activities to win or retain a customer?

I know that businesses always follow up their customers and potential. But I heard that there is another level of tracking customers that is "deep follow up".

What are the activities that constitute deep follow up to acquire customers and retain them?
 
The strategy I've used over the years is to maintain a relationship with my customers. I text, call and even visit my customers. This create a strong bond between us. I even chat them up for feedbacks.
