Most school of thoughts have opined that an online business trying to target everyone would ultimately fail. They always are emphasizing the need to target a small audience.

What are the reasons trying to target everyone as an online business won't work?

I completely agree with that idea. Trying to reach everyone with an online business is usually a mistake that leads to failure. The main reason is that when you try to cater to a very broad audience, you lose specialization and the ability to offer something truly relevant and personalized. Furthermore, the competition becomes much tougher, as you have to face many businesses also trying to capture that large market. Segmentation allows you to focus your efforts on a specific group, better understanding their needs and preferences, which in turn increases the chances of success. Another important point is that resources, such as marketing and communication, are used more effectively when targeting a defined audience. Ultimately, having a small but well-defined audience allows you to build a solid brand and offer more tailored solutions, which facilitates growth and customer loyalty.
