Well, I wouldn't say that I am an expert or anything, but besides writing for quite a few years for a number of websites, I have also been leading the Content Team of a travel website called WeAreHolidays. I deal with content writers every day, and having read, edited and reviewed hundreds of articles, here are some of the pointers that you could keep in mind.
Good grammar skills - No rocket science this. Your writing can only be appreciated if your grammar is correct and your punctuation is spot on. The best way to improve your english is by reading voraciously. If you aren't much of a reader, start with a 150-200 page book, or read up online on topics that interest you - sport, food, travel, or anything else. Read what you like, and read a lot, and you shall see the benefits of it sooner than later.
