I have heard of several cases where hard disks get damaged. It can be very fatal to a computer owner when their hard disk gets damaged. What are the things that can cause the hard disk of a computer to get damaged? How can it be prevented?

I once witnessed a friend lose months of work just because his hard drive crashed. It’s true, if it crashes without a backup, it can be catastrophic. The causes can be many—from power surges, computer crashes, to software errors.

To protect yourself, it’s important to use a surge protector, avoid moving your computer carelessly, and make sure your operating system is free of viruses. Also, don’t shut down your computer abruptly without proper precautions.

My computer hard disk didn't survive. My niece drank coffee and accidentally poured some affecting the hard disk. The technician told me it won't anymore be repaired. After that incident, I never allow anyone to use my personal property.

I am so sorry for what happened. It is true that personal items are extremely valuable and require care. A computer is a very sensitive device and spilling coffee can completely destroy it. I too have lost important data due to someone else's carelessness.

Learning from such an incident is a good step. It is not wrong to set boundaries and say no to people using your belongings. Others do not understand the importance of what you own. Sometimes it is better to look tough than to be hurt later. I keep my belongings away from water completely.
