What is network band?

I have been hearing people talk about network bands. I think it is related to smartphone networks and the internet. What does network band imply? Does it impact internet connectivity in any way? Is there any operation that a mere tech user have to do with network bands?

A network band is the frequency of the signals that is being used on an internet connecting device. It is what defines 3G, 4G and the rest.
