Backlinks can be classified into two major type; Dofollow and Nofollow links. Search engines value Dofollow links more than Nofollow links. Most links from social media is classified as Nofollow backlinks because search engine don't use such links to rank websites in SERAP. Probably, Google believe that such backlinks are pseudo in nature and can't be use to know how reliable and useful a website is. Though, Nofollow links can help to boost website traffic.
