What makes a phone to go off during usage?

Smartphone always gets hot when they are being used. What is the reason that phones get hot? Is it a hardware or software related issue? Is there anything that can be done to prevent a phone from getting hot? Or is it normal for a phone to get hot?

I want to believe that you imply that the phone gets hot and goes off. That is certainly an over strain of the hardware. Check for heavy apps and uninstall.
